Energy Security: A Force for Development in CARICOM through Practical Energy Solutions
The Trinidad and Tobago Energy Conference, “Navigating a Complex Energy Future” hosted by the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago, assembled regional and international energy and energy-related stakeholders among discussions of high-impact, practical solutions for cost-efficient power systems. At this high-level event, His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, fitting the theme, elaborated on the sustainability of natural gas solutions for energy security within the Caribbean region, thereon urging CARICOM nations to innovatively drive energy solutions to meet grid-energy storage. In his address, H.E. President Ali stated, “Here in Trinidad and Tobago, that opportunity exists and that opportunity should be allowed to blossom for the benefit of the people of this region and the globe,” President Ali told the audience at the four-day conference underway at Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain.” The demand for energy became more apparent given the global energy and food crises, the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russo-Ukrainian War which in turn, contributes to the cycle of both the supply chain disruptions, and food insecurity. Further, developing economies have suffered exorbitant costs in the peripheral sectors as a result, amounting to inflationary concerns. With this, it was reiterated that a net-zero global system could be achievable with countries making investments towards Environmental and Social Governance, such that clean energy and green technology, carbon-zero initiatives and the facilitation of labour across energy markets prove to be sustainable.
