New Data Gathering Methods to be Explored in Disease and Outbreak Control
Honourable Minister Dr. Frank Anthony, Ministry of Health during his daily COVID-19 update, revealed that the Ministry is working closely with the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) in acquiring data for disease monitoring and surveillance. Beginning from tomorrow, November 22, 2022 to November 25, 2022, the National Health Surveillance Symposium will see stakeholders in the healthcare system who will be informed of the current data collection and measurement systems, and essentially discuss mechanisms needed for disease management. "We do collect data but sometimes it’s not properly aggregated so they are going to examine that to see how we can improve the systems to make sure that we have timely data and accurate data in with these disease entities," said Minister Dr. Anthony. The interest in gathering data to produce meaningful research was further drawn from the concern arising from the management practices and health protocols spontaneously undertaken during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data on-communicable diseases (NCDs) and different types of cancers most commonly found in Guyanese are to be collected for disaggregation and analysis, though some confounding circumstances are present; given the irregular periods of medical visits by patients which influences the lack of registration, data is not recorded.
